The following assessments and evaluations here reflect my personal opinion. The reader can understand them, but they remain subjective judgments. The functionality of websites is always - though not only - a matter of taste.
From the perspective of an antique dealer who is watching the situation on the Altbuchmarkt for many years and mitdiskutiert, this 90-line article a disaster. Each fellow would teach boys a better editor can.

I had predicted years ago that Amazon would conquer the market of the old books in Geschwindeschritt, not least because sitting there, the world's best minds. We were bitterly disappointed but booksellers - Amazon is still present in almost grotesquely focused on the sale of new or at least as good as new books. Allowing for the antiquarian, old, not just "used" newer titles Amazon has set up completely impractical. I can not imagine a cruder, more terrible, confusing and totally botched database if I want to sell my old books there.
Why is this? Amazon had almost from the beginning set up for used books of the last thirty years, a kind of parallel field. Using the same techniques that Amazon makes available the new books, including the newer second-hand books are available. This works as long as well when you have ISBN numbers, can fall back on standard cover images, and uses standardized bibliographic records of the DNB.
This parallel field, where quite reasonable, used more recent books may appear similar to the New Books, begins around 1960. For all the older tracks (and thus for the core area of the antiquarian book trade), the Amazon presentation

The "Books-Michel" I was being considered in detail over a decade ago. He is this year has now been ZVAB from a very grotesque manner implemented in a way that I'm ashamed of my poor child, and am inclined to deny it. Here was the assistance of Schwaneberger stamp publishing - it could have really known better - a very funny, because Dadaist absurd misconception put into the net, and outrageously expensive to have. May the semi-corpse "Books-Michel" soon gently asleep.
Clear words are appropriate here, because unsuspecting Web users, in my personal opinion are not only angry and stressed, but also excluded as the Christmas goose.
Back to the core function of ZVAB. Here, details are left out, a
* technically and optically excellent database for more recent an d old books.
There are better books graphic databases, but also much worse. Here ZVAB is in good upper middle, even though we all have a long list of improvement needs. Technically ZVAB was the very first ever database Choice.
Amazon is especially older, really "antique" books on, I say it again, a disaster in practical use. Everything is there for New Books smart and desirable, from the possibility of meeting user forums to "also read ..." - This is in the old books of sheer nonsense, it bothers keeps disabled.
I point here only as a serious analysis would look to me quick throwaway remark - the secret is in the CSV file that specifies directories. It is for the collection of older antiquarian books due nor relevant to the D arstellun g and the practical ese L n of records in the Amazon database, but simply absurd obstacle, impossible.

To sum up: The
ZVAB is still represents the only viable type of book portal, which appears suitable for older antiquarian books. The small competitor databases, of which there are a handful for the German speaking countries are more or less skillful copies of ZVAB system.

details would be noted in large numbers. The billing system at the Amazon is not so bad. The evaluation, unpopular with the booksellers, is actually getting used to. As an old hare I Ebay but can accept that, and really are estimates if they rely to a greater number of sales, helpful for both sides, offering for the bookseller.
